COMPOSITION, ORCHESTRATION AND ENGRAVING //

I specialize in orchestral writing. I studied orchestration and composition privately with Dr. James Smith and Dr. Dennis Leclaire, both internationally perfomed composers.  No theoritical education can replace the actual knowldege of performing in an orchestra on different orchestral instruments, however, so I have learned and performed on multiple orchestral instruments in several ensembles, including the Taylorsville Symphony Orchestra, the Granite Senior Youth Symphony, and the Berklee Musical Theater Orchestra.  My background allows me to create unique orchestral colors and textures with any instrumental ensemble you can imagine.

Orchestral Composition

"99942 Apophis" was composed for full symphony orchestra under the tutelage of Dr. Dennis Leclaire.

99942 Apophis is the name of a near-Earth asteroid discovered in 2004 during a close approach of it's orbit. The close approach in 2029 will substantially alter the object's orbit, making calculations concerning the danger of the approach in 2036 difficult, if not impossible.

Score Composition and Preparation for Film

This is a demo cue written for a scene from the pilot episode of the television series "Alias".  This was recorded to punches and streamers, rather than a click track or the "clock" method, to allow for expressive tempo changes.

Choral Composition

In acting as music director for the "Voices of Zion" (formerly the "Boston Choir and Orchestra"), I had the opportunity to compose several choral pieces.  This piece I orchestrated both for SATB/Orchestra and SATB/Piano. Shown here is the latter version.

Professional Engraving

"13. Find the River" is a piece pulled from a larger theatrical work, "The Weaver of Raveloe", composed by Erica Glenn.  Serving as head orchestrator for this production, I was responsible for engraving the scores, including this Piano/Vocal score.  This is one song pulled from the complete 280-page Piano/Vocal.
